Scope: This topic covers A+ Core 1 troubleshooting recognition for drive- and RAID-related symptoms. The emphasis is technician-level symptom recognition and domain routing: identify when a visible or audible alert, detection failure, data-integrity warning, performance degradation, or RAID-array alert points to drive/RAID troubleshooting rather than application or OS-only issues. Do not perform vendor-specific RAID administration, deep recovery, SAN/NAS architecture work, file-system repairs, backup design, or enterprise-scale storage administration; those are outside this lesson focus for A+.

Common mistakes to avoid
Technicians sometimes assume any LED change equals catastrophic failure; some LEDs indicate rebuild or activity. Also, clicking/grinding can be mistaken for fan or optical drive noise-verify the physical source before replacing hardware.
Technicians may try OS-level fixes (reinstall OS) before verifying hardware detection. Another common error is assuming missing drive equals data loss; first confirm detection and whether the logical volume is intact.
A common mistake is treating S.M.A.R.T. warnings as optional or waiting for a hard failure. At support level, any S.M.A.R.T. failure should be treated as actionable: backup and replace.
Assuming slowness is always network- or CPU-related. Another confusion is making configuration changes (e.g., cache settings) before checking for drive health indicators or SMART warnings.
