This A+ topic covers technician-level recognition and selection: common ways internet service reaches a location (cable, DSL, fiber, cellular, satellite), broad network classes by scale and support context (PAN, LAN, WLAN, WAN), and practical tools a technician chooses for cable preparation, termination, testing/tracing, and simple wireless environment inspection (crimper, cable stripper, punchdown tool, cable tester, toner probe, loopback plug, Wi-Fi analyzer).

Common mistakes to avoid
Students often conflate 'fast' with 'fiber' - speed alone is not a reliable cue. Also, 'fixed wireless' and 'cellular' may look similar; use hardware and service descriptors in the scenario to pick the correct label.
Learners sometimes misuse LAN vs WAN when the scenario simply mentions internet access: internet access at one site is not itself a WAN. Also, PAN and WLAN may overlap superficially - focus on personal short-range vs shared local Wi-Fi coverage.
Students may select a tester when the task is termination; remind them to ask: are we preparing/attaching connectors or are we verifying an existing cable? If preparing or attaching, choose a termination tool.
A common mistake is choosing a cable tester to find a cable's physical location in a large bundle; a toner probe is the correct tracing tool. Also, loopback plugs test an interface locally and do not validate cabling to a remote endpoint.
