SY0-701 4.1: Computing Resource Security
Computing Resource Security for Security+
This Security+ topic covers secure baseline lifecycle: establish, deploy, and maintain approved configuration states; Hardening targets: mobile devices, workstations, switches, routers, cloud infrastructure, servers, ICS/SCADA, embedded systems, RTOS, and IoT devices; Wireless device operations: installation considerations, site surveys, heat maps, WPA3, AAA/RADIUS, cryptographic protocols, and authentication protocols; Mobile solutions: MDM, BYOD, COPE, CYOD, and connection methods including cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

Common mistakes to avoid
A secure baseline is not a one-time checklist. Establishing creates the standard, deploying applies it, and maintaining keeps resources from drifting or becoming outdated.
Hardening is often confused with vulnerability remediation. Patching a known flaw can be part of hardening, but hardening is broader: it reduces unnecessary exposure before and after specific vulnerabilities are known.
Learners often choose WPA3 for every wireless scenario. WPA3 is a security setting, but it does not answer coverage, interference, access point placement, or signal leakage problems. Site surveys and heat maps solve planning and installation questions.
The common mistake is treating MDM and deployment models as the same thing. MDM is the management capability. BYOD, COPE, and CYOD describe ownership and control models that MDM may help enforce.
