Notational Systems for Tech+

Modern computing uses different notational systems (numeral systems) to represent values. The decimal system (base-10) is the standard for everyday counting, using ten digits 0 through 9. Computers operate using binary (base-2), which only uses the digits 0 and 1 and is the foundation of all digital data. For convenience, binary data is often represented in hexadecimal (base-16) or octal (base-8) format, since one hexadecimal digit represents four binary bits and one octal digit represents three bits.
