Asset Management and Service Documentation for A+
This A+ topic teaches technician-level operational records and reusable service documents that support effective day-to-day support. Focus is on asset visibility (what exists and its context), ownership and lifecycle state, warranty and licensing context useful for support, service-level expectations (internal and external SLAs), and reusable operational documents (SOPs, checklists, KB). The goal is judgment about what record to consult or maintain and how to keep records useful for troubleshooting, replacement, and support handoff.

Common mistakes to avoid
Technicians may overpopulate inventory with irrelevant finance fields (depreciation codes) that reduce findability. Conversely, treating CMDBs as static inventories loses the benefit of relationship mapping.
Technicians sometimes rely on hostname or active directory owner only; those can be stale. The asset record is the authoritative source for assignment and lifecycle.
Treating warranty and license records as purely administrative; their absence or inaccuracy directly affects time-to-repair and legal reuse of software.
Learners may assume SLA terms are universal; they vary by contract and by internal policy. Also, vendor SLAs often require specific reporting steps to trigger remedies.
